What do I need to do to prepare for my photo shoot?
Every client receives a welcome pack at their pre-shoot consultation. This pack will outline everything you need to know about preparing for your shoot including clothing suggestions, beauty tips and location choices etc. If there are any questions that pop up in the meantime before your shoot day, don't hesitate to drop me an email or give me a call. I'm always happy to chat.
Do you do weekend appointments?
Usually studio hours are Monday to Friday but there is the occasional opening on weekends. Weekends often get booked up very quickly but do enquire in case I happen to have a space available.
Being in front of a camera makes me uncomfortable and I never look good in photos
This is the most common worry that I hear from women and it's totally normal to be anxious. But it is so important for women to be photographed. What better excuse than to celebrate your life turning 30, 40, 50 and even 70 but and also for the benefit of your kids. Your children don't care that you wanted to lose 10kg! They are going to want to have photos of the woman they love just as you are, particularly as they grow up. I truely believe that a professional photo shoot is an experience that every women should get to do at least once. You don't need to worry about where to place your hands or when to smile. No one is born naturally photogenic! It is my job to guide you through the whole shoot so that you can finally have photos that you feel beautiful in and that you feel proud of. Portrait photography can be an incredible, transforming experience and it has the power to change the way you see yourself.
Do I have to decide before the photo shoot how I want to display my photographs?
Not at all! The display products will be available for viewing in the studio throughout the whole experience and your welcome pack contains everything you need to know about ordering and prices. So you can take your time and save the big decisions for your post-shoot reveal session once you have seen all your final retouched images. I want you to have artwork that fits with your style and home decor so we can talk through all the options available and work out what's going to work best for you.
How do I book a photo shoot with Emily?
We want to do out photo shoot outside. What if it's raining?
Snowy, chilly, drizzly - we can get some awesome images in all kind of weather! The best days to photograph outdoors are actually overcast ones rather than bright sunny bluebird days as the light is most flattering on the skin and we don't gets lots of bright sun spots and dark shadows. However, if you or I decide that the weather is really unbearably cold or wet, it's really no problem to reschedule at no additional cost.
Do you do indoor shoots?
Most definitely. The studio is best suited to more intimate portraits individually or in small groups of 2-3 people. My space is very private and I have a few different options for backdrops and lighting.
Where is the studio located?
The studio is located in Halswell, just 10 minutes drive south of Christchurch central.
How long do sessions last?
Indoor studio shoots usually last about 4 hours, which includes time for hair and makeup. Don't worry, I won't let you starve in that time! Outdoor photo shoots normally take around 1-2 hours on location. If you would like hair and makeup done before the shoot this will take a bit of extra time on top of that depending on logistics and how many people want pampering. It is most important to me that we photograph you the way that would like to be photographed and that you are happy with the way that you look in your images.
How many photos will I get to view after the photo shoot?
It will probably feel like I'm taking quite a lot of photos during the session! Once I have spent time culling of all the ones where we've just caught you blinking or someone in the group isn't quite looking at the camera, I will select and retouch the best 30+ images ready for your reveal session 2-3 weeks after shoot day.
Can we just buy the digital files from you?
If you want to share your photos online with your friends or family then that's great! We live in a digital age after all and in todays world loved ones often live miles or even continents away so it's nice to be able to share the experience with them. That is why for every image that is purchased as wall art or included in an album or folio box, I include a complimentary high resolution digital file of that image on USB. Business clients in particular are most likely to need digital files for their websites or for social media advertising so I sell digitals either individually or as a collection with a print release. Please enquire for prices.
Do you do printing and framing?
YES YES YES! I am a great advocate of printing photographs so that your memories and celebrations can be seen and admired. There's something so satisfying about seeing your family portrait on the wall or flicking through pages of memories in a beautiful leather bound album. Sometimes I even find myself just enjoying the smell of the pages! It can be such a struggle finding time in our busy lives to sort out the mammoth task of running around town getting the printing, framing and mounting done of our treasured memories. I'd rather go the extra mile for you so that you can have them displayed in your home where they can be fully appreciated for their sentimental value rather than lost on a hard drive. Being a full-service photographer I can do all of this for you and I work with some of the very best professional printing companies in New Zealand, Australia and Europe to bring my clients the best quality products available in a range of styles to suit you.
How long does it take to receive our finished display artwork?
Once your order has been placed and payment has been made in full, your display items will be in your hand within 5 weeks.
Do you do payment plans?
Yes, we use Genoapay and I work with clients on all budgets so if you want to spread out your payments over 10 weeks we can totally help with that. PLUS with the Genoapay system you won't have to wait WEEEEKS for your products. They'll be in your hands safely delivered to you within 3-4 weeks of your ordering session.
What if I want to come back at a later date for extra copies of my images?
That's absolutely fine. I securely store all the high resolution digitals of your images for 12 months after your shoot date just in case you want to come back at a later date or (heaven forbid) the worst happens and you lose your images due to fire/hurricane/earthquake/volcanic eruption etc...which realistically could and has happened in our country! The images that I take for people often have so much sentimental value, sometimes even more so if a family member passes on or moves away, that I always keep extra back ups just to be safe.
